This should answer some of your questions.

We know you’re likely bursting with questions, so hopefully we can answer some for you straight away. For any others, send us an email at hello@ironcad.com.au or fill in the form below.

Why haven't I heard of IronCAD before now?
In the past, we didn’t do much marketing. We use huge amounts of our resources on Research & Development, which is why we have patented and award-winning features, but this also means we have fewer resources available for marketing, and realistically we just didn’t focus on the marketing side for a long time. So IronCAD users mainly grew from recommendations, and we’re happy to say that today we have hundreds of thousands of users around the world.

Fast forward to now, and we are ramping up our marketing to introduce IronCAD to the rest of the world. We’re ready to change CAD design for the better, and give companies more profitability from every minute they use CAD software.

How long has IronCAD been around?
IronCAD was founded in March 2001, but work on it actually began before that in 1998. So 2018 marks two decades since the beginning of IronCAD.

Ever since, IronCAD has been forging new directions for the 3D CAD industry by showing just how much more productive 3D CAD can be, and inventing award-winning patented tools along the way.

Fast forward to now, and we are ramping up our marketing to introduce IronCAD to the rest of the world. We’re ready to change CAD design for the better, and give companies more profitability from every minute they use CAD software.

Do any big companies use IronCAD?
They sure do. IronCAD users range from one-person workshops all the way up to multi-billion dollar corporations – some of the largest companies in the world today.

IronCAD is about getting the job done in the most efficient way possible, which is beneficial for companies of all sizes, and IronCAD’s pricing options are set up to make it possible for anyone to get started using IronCAD.

Will it be difficult to learn IronCAD?
IronCAD is built to be a lot easier to learn than traditional MCAD systems, so whilst it will definitely still take some time to learn, it’s generally a lot faster than learning other systems.

The main thing to consider here is the long-term impact. If training your team in IronCAD takes one week, then it will be worth it if IronCAD can make back that one week in saved time, right?

Often IronCAD can make the same thing in half the time of other systems, so if you evaluate the impact over a year or even just a month, IronCAD should easily pay for the training many times over, and continue to benefit your profitability into the future.

How does IronCAD licensing work? Do I have acces to my IP?
IronCAD provides multiple licensing options, like Rental and Rent-To-Buy, but the main licensing option is IronCAD’s lifetime license.

This provides a permanent license to the version of IronCAD you purchase. This version can be kept forever, and can also be upgraded to newer versions as we release them. If you upgrade, you’ll have a lifetime license of the version you upgrade to.

With this in mind, you can be confident you’ll always have access to open and edit your CAD files and intellectual property. They’re your designs and your ideas, so you deserve permanent access to them.

But I use SolidWorks, isn't it the best?
Short answer: no. Long answer: whilst in many ways SolidWorks is a good product, it simply doesn’t provide the same level of speed or flexibility available in IronCAD. If you compare both systems in detail, we expect 9 times out of 10 IronCAD will be more productive by a very significant margin. This means by using IronCAD you can make more money from every minute you use CAD software. For more information on comparing SolidWorks and IronCAD, look at 7 Reasons To Choose IronCAD Over SolidWorks

We encourage you to do your own research and testing, make a few of the same products in each system, we’d be surprised if IronCAD wasn’t ahead by a large margin.

If you have another Traditional 3D CAD System, the comparison is largely the same as to SolidWorks. Whilst most of these systems have their advantages/disadvantages over each other, the difference to IronCAD is largely the same, and is a fundamental difference in methodology which can’t be made up for by adding “features” on top of traditional methods.

Our team – and many IronCAD users – have experience in many 3D CAD systems, and we’re always happy to engage in honest detailed technical discussion about each system.

Can I collaborate with other CAD systems?
You sure can. IronCAD runs dual modelling kernels (PARASOLID & ACIS), which makes importing and exporting to other systems easier and more accurate.

You can import and export to common 3D and 2D formats. Then when you’ve imported foreign geometry, IronCAD has a range of direct editing tools, which help you make changes to your model in a short time frame that simply wouldn’t be possible in other systems.

What computer specifications do I need?
IronCAD can run on quite low specification machines, and you may be surprised by what you can run it on. However, to get the best perfomance we recommend the specs below:

Most models:
CPU: i5 or better, minimum clock speed of 2Ghz
RAM: 16GB
GPU: 2GB or more dedicated graphics memory
Storage: 256GB or more SSD

Complex models:
CPU: i7 or Xeon, minimum clock speed of 3Ghz
RAM: 32GB
GPU: 4GB or more Nvidia Quadro workstation graphics
Storage: 256GB or more SSD

Today, IronCAD represents a fundamentally more innovative way to design in 3D. With traditional CAD systems slowly adopting some of the tools IronCAD invented many years ago, IronCAD continues to set new benchmarks for how much productivity companies can achieve with their CAD systems.

IronCAD's endlessly growing toolset includes the patented (and award-winning) TriBall, the Unified Design Environment, the Catalog SmartAssembly System, 2D Bulk Drawing Automation, Dual Kernel Technology, the Push & Pull IntelliShape, and many more tools built to give you more return on investment from every minute you use CAD software.
